Employ to Empower (ETE) supports residents in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES) community by providing access to development and entrepreneurial resources. Our resources include affordable microloans and business mentorship, with the goal of having a long-term impact on our members’ personal and economic well-being. We also actively advocate for creating positive social change in the DTES.

Position Description

Collaborating With: Charissa Landicho (Advocacy Lead)
Location: Vancouver (able to commute to Vancouver for Event-day)
Commitment: 5-8 hours/week (higher amounts in peak event season; includes weekly 1-hour meeting with Advocacy team)

Position Summary

The Volunteer Coordinator will work directly with the Advocacy Lead and is responsible for organizing a team of dedicated event-specific volunteers, varied in tasks and amount depending on the event, to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of each Advocacy event (Street Store, Cardboard Project, + another event TBD). The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the role creation, training and assignment, as well as being the lead volunteer on the ground on event day. Tasks will include ensuring that the volunteers are working diligently through their tasks (set-up, tear-down, as well as any event specific tasks), as well as ensuring that each volunteer is meeting the values of the Employ to Empower organization. The Volunteer Coordinator will also be responsible for any event specific task involving outside volunteers such as Donation Champion communications for the Street Store and organizing donation collection. The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with Volunteer Recruiter who will lead the marketing and recruitment of volunteers, and will direct applicants to the Volunteer Coordinator. The Volunteer Coordinator will work in direct communication with the Venue Logistics to ensure that the event day volunteers are in the loop of all major tasks.

Key Responsibilities

-Coordinate with ETE Volunteer Recruitment in connecting with event/project volunteer prospects
-Work with Advocacy team to determine the event-specific volunteers needed
-Role description writing and creation, and coordinate with ETE Volunteer Recruitment in a timely manner for marketing
-Taking lead on all volunteer organization: volunteer assignment, training, schedule creation, and event day leadership
