Employ to Empower (ETE) supports residents in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES) community by providing access to development and entrepreneurial resources. Our resources include affordable microloans and business mentorship, with the goal of having a long-term impact on our members’ personal and economic well-being. We also actively advocate for creating positive social change in the DTES.

Position Summary

The Volunteer Recruitment role works closely with the leads of Employ to Empower’s three major pillars – Development, Entrepreneurship and Advocacy. This role will take a pivotal lead as our community talent-scout, recruiting new talent to join our volunteer team. Our organization is led by dedicated volunteers, who share a passion for the DTES community. The Volunteer Recruiter will help strengthen our Development Course with new facilitators and teaching assistants, our Entrepreneurship Pillar with new community mentors, and our Advocacy Pillar with a variety of long-term and short-term volunteers for a variety of projects. For the Advocacy Pillar, the Volunteer Recruiter will work alongside the Advocacy Volunteer Coordinator in marketing and recruiting for 30+ event-specific volunteers (for Street Store, Cardboard Project + another event TBD). The Volunteer Recruiter will work alongside our Marketing Team to share the variety of volunteer opportunities. This role in particular will take lead on the recruitment strategy, communications, and first-point of contact, discovering the strengths of the individual and connecting them with the pillar that would best suit them!

Key Responsibilities

-Lead recruitment process for ETE
-Work with our marketing lead for volunteer roll out and recruitment process
-Lead in posting on volunteer boards, and strategizing recruitment action plan
-Creating first connection with potential volunteer
-Directing potential volunteer to the appropriate field (advocacy, entrepreneurship, development)
-Advocacy Lead, Entrepreneur Lead, Development Lead to liaison with Volunteer Recruitment to communicate what positions are open

This Position Would Be Right For You If You Are…

-Compassionate and cares deeply for the DTES community
-Have 1+ years of experience in volunteer recruitment, sponsorship, marketing, or events planning
-Self-starter, curious by nature and keen appetite to learn
-Highly interpersonal and have strong communication skills on email, phone and text
-Analytical and detail-oriented
-Able to prioritize, lead and balance multiple projects at once and meet goals
-Strong and confident leadership
-Ability to work as a team and individually
