What is In-House Counselling?

The purpose of the ETE Mentorship Program is to empower ETE entrepreneurs with guidance, support, and resources to help them develop their skills, achieve their business objectives, and build confidence in their abilities.

Program Eligibility

In order for applicants to be eligible for the BST program, we ask that participants meet the following criteria:

  • Have a specific business idea
  • Low Income (Below $35,000 – $40,000/annually)

AND one of the following:

  • Facing any mental or physical health barriers (self-declared)
  • Access social services (ie: receiving support from community/non-profit organizations, agencies, government)

Counselling Is

  • Providing guidance, insights, and support based on own experiences
  • Support with goal setting and progress tracking
  • Empowering you with tools, strategies, and knowledge to grow your business
  • Offer constructive feedback and encouragement

Counselling Is Not

  • Doing the work for the entrepreneur
  • Making decisions on behalf of the entrepreneur
  • Running or managing the business for the entrepreneur
  • Making sales for the entrepreneur
  • Providing unlimited of 24/7 support
  • Guarantee Business Success
    Act as a financial sponsor, investor, or fundraiser
  • Act as personal counselor or therapist
  • Provide legal, financial, or medical advice

Meet Our Counsellor

Hello! I’m Christina Wong, Co-Founder and Executive Director at Employ to Empower. Growing up in Chinatown, I was curious on why people were sleeping on the streets and I had a home. As a child who always asked questions, I never got answers from my teachers or parents, so at the age of 14, I started volunteering in the Downtown Eastside (DTES) to find my own answers.

Throughout getting involved in the DTES community for the past 18 years, I quickly learned that people have strengths and simply need an opportunity over a handout to unlock their full potential. When I learned this, I quit my corporate job and Employ to Empower was born in 2018.

Can I have access to 1-on-1 mentorship and Brainstorm Session at the same time?

No, you will only get access to one of the options.

If I’m an ETE entrepreneur and haven’t made a sale, can I apply to receive 1-on-1 mentorship?

No, one-on-one mentorship is only available for ETE entrepreneurs who have already made their first sale.

How will you check if I have made a sale?

This will be based on a trust-based system with your honesty in reporting your business progress.
