Organization Overview

Employ to Empower (ETE) supports residents in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES) community by providing access to development and entrepreneurial resources. Our resources include affordable microloans and business mentorship, with the goal of having a long-term impact on our members’ personal and economic well being. We also actively advocate for creating positive social change in the DTES.

Advocacy Mission
To provide the Employ to Empower members with self-Advocacy opportunities to share their story and be active voices in shifting the stigma about the DTES. Our hope is to educate the community in the unique and valuable experiences of each individual living in the DTES, living with work and social barriers, and experiencing homelessness, whose experiences are worthy of being humanized.

Position Description

Title Description: Advocacy Coordinator
Reporting To: Charissa Landicho, Advocacy Lead
Location: Virtual and in person
Desired Start Date: Mar 1, 2022
Commitment: 12 months with the possibility of extending the term
Position Type: Paid Honorarium Position

Details:
– 206 hour position spread throughout the year – with designated peak times (see attached image below).
– Honorarium of $4060 annually

Position Summary

Your focus areas will include:
I. Year Round Tasks (1 to 3 hours per week):
-Meeting minutes (Advocacy team meeting, Peer Advisory Group meeting)
-Once a week 1-on-1 meetings with Advocacy Lead; once a week Advocacy team meetings
-Support in collecting metrics at event

II. Project Specific Tasks (April, May, June, Oct, Nov, up to 8 hours a week):
– Event day support and preparation (CBP, A Day in the Life of, Podcast, Workshop)
– Volunteer Coordination
– Coordinate with Head of Engagement in connecting with event/project volunteer prospects
– Work with Advocacy team to determine the event-specific volunteers needed
– Work with Head of Advocacy in role description writing and creation, and send to Head of Engagement in a
timely manner for marketing
– Volunteer schedule and assignment
– Volunteer communications and coordination
– Support Head of Advocacy in volunteer training
