Employ to Empower is looking for an engaging and energetic individual who loves connecting with their community and has experience with charity outreach. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!
Employ to Empower (ETE) is an award-winning charity that empowers low-income individuals with work and/or social barriers through entrepreneurship. We offer a 10-week business skills training program, personalized mentorship, micro-loans and self-advocacy opportunities.
At Employ to Empower, we take on a compassion-focused lens to provide personalized support to cultivate community connections. Our vision is that every person has the opportunity to achieve self-reliance, financial well-being, a sense of belonging and contribution to the community.
The Vancouver Street Store is a free, outdoor pop-up store, facilitated by Employ to Empower that takes place annually in December for residents in the Downtown Eastside (DTES). The goal of the event is to provide a dignified shopping experience where residents are uplifted and offered a hand up rather than a hand out. Since 2014, the Street Store’s impact has grown to over 350 volunteers, collected 65,500 donations, and greeted more than 5,000 guests.
On December 16th, 2023, we will celebrate our 10th anniversary with the theme centering around “HOME”. Understanding that the past few years have been challenging for the DTES community with street sweeps, post-pandemic, and housing; we want to rekindle the feeling of safety, warmth, and love to the community.
