Hats off to our new gads! Last month we had 16 talented entrepreneurs walk the metaphorical stage and officially graduate from the Business Skills Course. Our 10-week program gives Downtown Eastside the opportunity to enroll in a ten-module Business Skill Building program, specializing in basic business fundamentals. Residents in the Downtown Eastside who complete our Development program have the opportunity to join our Mentorship program and are supported by business professionals through personalized weekly mentorship sessions and have access to affordable microloans.
Employ to Empower Facilitator Lara Debie, who spent the 8 weeks with all four cohorts said, “The variety of ideas that the current cohort brought in, was awesome to see. It ranges from artists to people selling curated products, to offering services.” She was most excited that this cohort has many ideas about involving and giving back to the DTES community. “I’m in awe of the creative and smart things the entrepreneurs came up with. I can’t wait to see their businesses evolve and grow into the vision that they have for their business,” said Debie.
